There was a discussion today about the preferred POSMV group for Position. There are three options to choose from in the Applanix POS MV. Groups 3, 10 or 20. Each group has its benefits and uses. 

 

Group 3 provides the status of the internal Trimble GPS receiver inside the POS MV.  This is not necessarily the status of the POS MV (i.e. it may be aiding the auxiliary or tightly coupled modes).

Group 20 provides the tightly coupled status only.

Group 10 is the one that HYPACK prefers. This group ensures that the best positional solution (as determined by the POSMV) is being output to your other sensors and is more robust. This solution could be the Auxiliary, Closely Coupled, or Tightly Coupled aiding modes provided by the differential corrector(s). The Group 10 solution is the best option for use with RTK tides in HYPACK.  

As a reminder, to use these modes, the user must augment the POS MV with another differential correction source.  Some examples of these include:

  • An RTK Base Station that is providing an NMEA output (GGA, GST, GSV, GSA)
  • An RTCM beacon differential corrector such as the U.S. Coast Guard NDGPS network
  • An NTRIP Client that provides differential correctors through the internet
