The convention for offsets to a mobile that references the position of a parent mobile is that the offsets are entered as if you are looking at the stern of the vessel. The offsets are entered backwards from a standard device. A GPS on the boat that is 2 feet forward and 2 feet starboad of the boat reference point would be entered as +2 forward and +2 starboard. On the same vessel if you have a towed magnetometer that is 5 feet aft of the reference point and 2 feet starboard would be entered as +5 forward and -2 starboard even though the a-frame is behind the reference point. This is to maintain backwards compatibility.
